Larry Martinek
Chief Education Officer
Larry began his career as a math teacher in Los Angeles, where he quickly saw a disconnect between how math was taught and how students actually learned. Determined to make math clearer and more meaningful, he developed innovative techniques that form the foundation of the Mathnasium Method used today.
As Mathnasium’s Chief Education Officer, Larry’s vision continues to guide thousands of instructors worldwide. His lifelong mission is to show students that math makes sense, building both their skills and their confidence.
Camilla Davis
Owner
Hi, my name is Camilla Davis and I LOVE teaching difficult things! I have a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and a Minor in Mathematics from TAMU-CC. I found my passion for explaining challenging concepts while working at C.A.S.A., the campus tutoring service. Throughout my college career I tutored most of the math, physics and engineering courses, adding new courses to my repertoire as I completed them. I found Mathnasium my junior year, and was immediately impressed by the curriculum and the teaching methods. I worked as an instructor under the original owner, Christian Schomaker, and found that working with children made the job not even feel like work! Shortly after graduation and despite having received an excellent job offer with a local engineering firm, I took a position as Mathnasium Center Director and never looked back. After spending a couple of years in the Center Director position, life circumstances changed and stars aligned to present me with an opportunity at ownership. It is easy to be skeptical when we say that we make math fun - so many students have such a rocky relationship with math - but spend a few minutes with us and you’ll see that it is a reality! Mathnasium’s founder, Larry Martinek, put it very well when he said, “Children do not hate math. What they hate is being confused, intimidated and embarrassed by math.” Mathnasium’s teaching methods make advanced concepts accessible and intuitive so that students can truly understand how things work and, more importantly, WHY they work the way that they do. This strategic approach, coupled with the enthusiasm of our exceptional instructors, sets the stage for students to build confidence, catch up, keep up, get ahead, and discover a lifelong love for mathematics!
Brandy Miller
Center Director
Howdy, I’m Brandy Miller and I love math! Ever since I was little math has always been my favorite subject. I have a bachelor’s degree in software engineering with a minor in business. During COVID I taught both my boys and tutored many of the neighborhood kids which really unlocked my desire to become a teacher myself. I substituted for three years as I became certified, then taught for two years. However, teaching had too many restrictions and I felt I could not help my students reach their full potential. Mathnasium is where I found I could meet students on their level of understanding and build them up with a strong foundation. I feel that Mathnasium has the best built curriculum I have seen that works with all age groups. I love that I can be myself here at Mathnasium so you can usually catch me with some type of crazy Ms. Frizzle inspired earrings. However, my favorite part of my job is seeing students fully understand a concept and feel confident in their work and getting to celebrate that with them. When I’m not working my husband and I chase our two boys around as they are both musicians, one in his high school marching band, and the other the lead singer of his own country music band. I also dabble in quite a few hobbies in my spare time baking, reading, and crocheting for example.
Amerika
Assistant Center Director
Amerika graduated from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, where she is completed a BS in Mathematics, focused on applied and industrial applications, as well as a BA in Psychology. Her dual studies reflect her belief that math and human behavior often intersect in fascinating ways.
She loves finding math in everyday activities, whether she’s running or crocheting. At Mathnasium, Amerika brings energy and insight to every session, helping students discover how numbers connect to the world around them.
Lauren
Lead Instructor
My name is Lauren Lutz. I’m studying Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics at TAMUCC, set to graduate with my Bachelor’s in December 2025. Growing up, I lacked confidence in math, and that followed me into college. It was a steep learning curve, but the more math classes I took, the more I learned to appreciate math rather than run from it. Now, math inspires me, and I’m thrilled to share that with my students here at Mathnasium!
Eric
Instructor
Eric Thompson is a junior at SST, where he is currently ranked third in his class and is aiming even higher. While math was once a challenge for him, he persevered through struggles and developed a strong connection with the subject. That journey inspires his teaching today, as he helps students push through difficulties and discover their own love for math.
When he isn’t studying, Eric enjoys biking, hiking, exercising, and spending time with friends. He brings energy and encouragement to Mathnasium, showing students that growth and confidence come through persistence.
