In 2024, he transitioned into education full-time and is grateful to be part of the Mathnasium community.

Amina Whiteside
Lead Instructor
Amina brings a strong passion for mathematics and learning to the Mathnasium community. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Math from SUNY Old Westbury and continued her academic journey by pursuing her Master’s degree at SUNY Albany. Her dedication to the subject reflects her belief that math is both powerful and deeply rewarding to understand.
Outside of work, Amina enjoys listening to music, drawing, and playing video games in her free time. What she loves most about working with students is watching their confidence grow—especially when they begin to master topics that once felt challenging. Helping students realize they are capable of more than they thought is what makes teaching so meaningful to her.
Max Cooper
Instructor
Max is a proud student at Guilford High School and a dedicated percussionist who loves making music every chance he gets. Whether it’s rehearsals or live concerts, you can almost always find him behind a set of drums, bringing energy and rhythm to every performance.
Having been part of the Mathnasium community for the past three years as a student, Max has experienced firsthand the positive and supportive environment that makes the center so special. Inspired by that experience, he is excited to join the team as an instructor, where he enjoys helping other students grow in confidence and discover that math can be both engaging and fun.
Kevin Mulcahey
Assistant Director
Kevin is excited to be part of the community, having moved to the area last summer. With experience teaching elementary school in Colorado and running an Aftercare program in Maine, he brings a strong foundation in education and a genuine love for working with students.
After relocating to be closer to family, Kevin settled in with his wife, Jess, along with their black cat, Oliver, and scruffy dog, Jerry. A lifelong love of science naturally led to an appreciation for math as a powerful way to explore and better understand the world around us.
When not in the classroom, Kevin enjoys spending time with pets, diving into video games, designing and making custom t-shirts, and keeping an eye out for interesting backyard birds.
Shane Tandler
Instructor
Shane is a junior at Guilford High School and has loved math since elementary school. What started as his favorite subject has grown into a deeper appreciation through teaching and helping other students discover that math can be something to enjoy, not just complete.
He comes from a big family with three older brothers and shares his home with two cats. Outside of school and teaching, Shane enjoys watching football, listening to music, and spending time with friends. Looking ahead, he hopes to use his math skills to pursue a degree in business after graduation and is excited about the opportunities that strong analytical skills can create.
