Center Director

Stephanie studied at the University of the Incarnate Word pursuing a degree in Mathematics and a Minor in Special Education. After graduation, Stephanie taught various levels of mathematics on the middle and high school levels for five years. She worked as an insurance agent for 2 years after, before reigniting her passion for education and Mathematics. She joined the Bulverde South location as Center Director in 2021.

Jennifer Speer

Owner

Jennifer has a unique perspective that allows her to understand your kids and help them.

She is a successful business owner and homeschooling mom of 3! She has the perspective of an educator as well as a busy parent and knows the challenges of both. Jennifer knows how to engage the kids and hold their interest. She keeps them progressing in math in a way they will actually enjoy!

Jennifer has always had a strong grip on Mathematics, earning her B.B.A in Finance at Southwest Texas State University and then owning and operating successful businesses alongside her husband James.

After discovering Mathnasium and seeing what it can offer kids, they made a tough decision to sell their previous business and start all over again. As scary as that sounds, they knew that parents wanted the best education options available for their children. Larry Martinek

Creator of the Mathnasium Method

Larry has spent his entire career finding a better way to teach math. From inner city public schools, to acclaimed magnet schools, to leading private and parochial schools, Larry has served as both a classroom teacher and as an educational consultant. He has designed curriculum, teaching strategies, and teaching materials to help students and teachers learn math more effectively. He has trained teachers in the art and science of boosting students' ability to “do” math, thereby increasing students' math scores and feeling of self-worth. Larry is the developer of Mathnasium’s educational program – one of the most comprehensive and innovative curricula ever produced for teaching math. While Larry is not an Instructor at our Center, he is a valuable asset we can call on to ask about specific students' scenarios for guidance and advice. This has helped to make visits more productive and enjoyable for many of our students.

Angel Morales Rivera

Marketing Coordinator

Angel was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Texas in 2nd grade, where his curiosity about the world quickly took flight. He loves exploring everything—from psychology and physics to politics and video games—and is always trying to understand just a little more about life (he’s aiming for 2%!). Angel brings an open mind, enthusiasm, and a passion for learning to everything he does.

Favorite Number: 15 — He was assigned this number three years in a row in elementary school, so it’s been his number ever since.

Favorite Math Joke: To the mathematician who invented zero… thanks for nothing.

In 5 Years: He hopes to be living with purpose—making meaningful connections, finding joy in the small things, and making the world a better place.

Instructor

Alayna is a student at Northwest Vista College, currently pursuing a degree in Mathematics. Originally from Hawaii, they bring a thoughtful balance of analytical thinking and creative energy to their work. With a strong interest in problem-solving and logical reasoning, they enjoy tackling complex challenges and exploring new ideas. Alayna comes from a big family and is the fourth of five children, which has shaped their collaborative but competitive spirit and their ability to adapt. Outside of academics, they have a passion for music, games, and arts and crafts—creative outlets that fuel their curiosity and love for learning. They are always eager to explore new perspectives and find connections between different disciplines. Alayna’s diverse interests and collaborative spirit make them a thoughtful and versatile instructor who connects well with students of all backgrounds.

Favorite number: 3, it's the same day as my birthday. Plus, things just seem to work better in threes—there’s a reason we say, “third time’s the charm," and why there's a rule of thirds.

Alex is currently finishing sophomore year at Basis Shavano. Aside from a true love of math, Alex is also an artist, continually developing a portfolio of art in various mediums, and the president of Basis' film club. Alex’s creative mind and leadership skills help students see math as both an art and a science, inspiring them to approach problems from new angles.

Favorite number: v2, because it is 2^(1/2), which looks really cool, and also the proof as to why v2 is irrational is the most elegant proof I've ever seen.

Favorite math joke: They say that eating too much cake is a sin, but you can have as much pie as you want, because sin(p) = 0

In five years, I will be: In college, likely pursuing a degree in law or applied mathematics.
