Sydney has been helping Mathnasium students catch up, keep up, and get ahead since 2022. She is a student at Macalester College, double majoring in Spanish and History, and graduated from the Math and Science Academy in Woodbury.
Her favorite part of Mathnasium is seeing students go from struggling to mastering a concept. Sydney especially enjoys working with trig identities, which she sees as puzzles that require creative thinking. Outside of Mathnasium, she crochets and sews, even making her own prom dress from scratch.
Jim
Instructor
Jim lives in Lake Elmo and is retired from a 38-year career in engineering. He enjoys working at Mathnasium because every math problem has a clear answer, free of subjectivity.
Outside of the center, Jim is a ski instructor at Afton Alps and often works on projects at his family cabin. Both activities give him the chance to apply math in real-world situations, which he shares with his students to make learning more relatable.
Bhavya
Instructor
Bhavya is a full-time PSEO student at the University of Minnesota and hopes to enter a pre-med program. She enjoys solving the puzzles that math problems present and helping students experience the same satisfaction.

Katherine

FAQ
Mathnasium of Woodbury is located at 1125 Woodbury Drive, Woodbury, MN 55129, next to Anytime Fitness and Kinderberry Hill.
We proudly serve students from Woodbury, Oakdale, and Lake Elmo, as well as the South Washington County Schools and Stillwater Area Public Schools.
Unlike a tutor who focuses on helping with tonight’s homework or prepping for Friday’s test, Mathnasium takes a deeper approach. We work to uncover and address the underlying gaps that make those assignments challenging in the first place—often built up over several years. By strengthening core skills, we aim to make learning more manageable and confidence more sustainable.
Although Mathnasium focuses solely on math, at Mathnasium of Woodbury, students do need to read short phrases independently to fully engage with the material.
Our sessions are also an hour long, which can be a lot for younger learners. Because of this, children in PreK, Kindergarten, or early 1st grade may not yet be ready for the full experience. If you feel your child is up for it, we are always happy to offer our risk-free assessment to see if they are ready to get started!
Mathnasium of Woodbury can help students learn and master any grade 1–12 math class or topic, from basic arithmetic to Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and more advanced subjects.
We follow learning plans that are tailored to each student’s specific needs, ensuring they get the right support to make sense of math, close their knowledge gaps, and build solid foundations for math mastery.
Mathnasium is designed for students to attend an average of two or three one-hour sessions per week.
Since our enrollments are set up as a monthly tuition, there can be flexibility within the calendar month should conflicts arise.
Any lessons not used by the end of a calendar month are counted as a lost lesson.
No. When students attend infrequently, it is harder for them to retain what they've learned, which may lead to extra review and slower progress.
Even if you are looking to just give some extra challenge to an advanced student for enrichment, learning new material still requires time and reinforcement.
Consistent attendance helps your child build confidence and keep moving forward!
We provide premium value math-only tutoring through a monthly membership fee and a one-time enrollment fee. Students typically attend two to three times per week.
Following a diagnostic assessment, we create a personalized learning plan with a recommended session schedule based on your child’s goals. For details, contact us at [email protected].
Each student begins with a diagnostic assessment that allows us to evaluate their current math skills, identify knowledge gaps, and understand their academic goals. This helps us create a personalized learning plan that will best support their growth.
Mathnasium of Woodbury offers flexible enrollment options year-round, including 6- and 12-month plans. Some families choose to join seasonally, while others stay year-round to keep skills sharp and continue advancing.
Because learning gaps often build up over several years, it typically takes more than a few months to fully address them.
Even if your child is working at or above grade level, we can continue previewing new concepts to help them stay ahead. Our role is to keep you informed of your child's current progress and grade-level standing, but you decide when their learning goals have been met.
We allow for a 1-month hold per 6-months of your enrollment period. Pauses longer than this negatively impact our ability to keep your student moving through their learning plan and may cause skill regression.
The Mathnasium program works best with regular, continuous enrollment. This is the reason our membership structure is based on a multi-month enrollment period.
Mathnasium of Woodbury does not follow a one-size-fits-all curriculum. We use the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach that combines personalized, assessment-based learning plans with proven teaching techniques to build solid foundations for math mastery.
Our tutors work with students face-to-face in a supportive and engaging group environment, building on what they already know, introducing new concepts in a logical sequence, and enhancing their problem solving and critical thinking skills.
