David
Fenton Owner & Center Director
David Schulwitz is the Owner & Center Director of Mathnasium of Fenton, and he genuinely loves helping students feel confident in math again. He holds an MBA from Texas Christian University, a Master of Real Estate Development from University of Miami, and a Master’s in Entrepreneurship from University of Southern California.
Before opening Mathnasium, David served 10 years as an officer in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he built a career in real estate finance, developing strong problem-solving and analytical skills he now brings into education.
David grew up in Michigan and is a huge Detroit sports fan. Outside of Mathnasium, he loves spending time with dogs, staying active, and snow skiing in the winter. He also enjoys traveling—whether exploring cities across the U.S. or experiencing new cultures around the world.
As a parent-focused educator, David understands how frustrating math—especially algebra—can feel. His goal is simple: create a warm, encouraging environment where your child feels supported, builds confidence, and actually starts to enjoy math again.
Karen
Lead Instructor
Karen brings a strong academic foundation to Mathnasium of Fenton, holding a Bachelor's degree in Statistics from Michigan State University and a Master's degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her love of data, patterns, and problem-solving shapes the way she approaches teaching.
With experience as a former high school math teacher and tutor, Karen knows how to meet students where they are. She understands firsthand what it feels like when math is a struggle, because she has been there herself. It wasn't until statistics that math truly "clicked" for her, and that experience fuels her passion for helping every student find their own breakthrough moment.
A Michigan native, Karen recently returned home and is enjoying settling back in with her husband Patrick and their dog, Belle. When she's not working with students, she loves learning new things and is currently tackling the art of sock knitting!
Karen believes every student is capable of understanding and enjoying math. Her goal is to help each child build the confidence and skills they need to not just survive math class, but to genuinely feel good at it.
Isabelle (Izzy)
Instructor
Izzy is currently a student at Fenton High School with experience in Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB, and AP Statistics. She plans to continue her math journey next year in AP Calculus BC and hopes to pursue a future career involving mathematics.
Izzy is heavily involved in her school community. She is a section leader and low brass captain in marching band, participates in jazz band and track & field, serves as Vice President of National Honor Society, and is involved in Key Club, Student Council, and yearbook leadership. Outside of school, Izzy enjoys watching movies, playing Sudoku, and spending time with friends and family.
She especially enjoys problem-solving and the satisfaction of working through challenging concepts step-by-step. Izzy believes math is like a language that builds on itself over time, and she hopes to help students strengthen their understanding by making difficult concepts feel more approachable and less overwhelming. She hopes to help students feel confident in their abilities while creating a fun environment where they can feel comfortable learning and asking questions.
Aria
Instructor
Hi! I am so excited to be an instructor here at Mathnasium in Fenton. I have experience through Calculus AB and Statistics, and plan on taking Calculus BC as well. I absolutely love math, especially Algebra, so getting to share that love with other kids is one of my favorite parts about being an Instructor here.
I am currently a high school student, but after that, I plan to look into an education in astronomy. I hope to someday work for NASA or another large space corporation! In my free time, I am at the dance studio with my fellow dancers, and sometimes even teaching younger dancers’ classes. Other times, I can be found curled up with a book on the couch.
I love Mathnasium because not only do we get to supply guidance for kids who struggle with math, but we also get to help kids excel beyond what is learned in a large classroom environment. It’s so incredible to see their growth from week to week. My goal as your child’s instructor is to show kids that math can be fun for everyone, and that anyone can do what they set their minds to!
Alicia
Instructor
Alicia is an incoming student at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with experience through Calculus BC. She received a 7 on the International Baccalaureate Mathematics Interpretations and Applications Exam, has earned state recognition in multiple subjects, including mathematics, through the College Board, represented Fenton High School in Calculus at the Math and Science Competition, and holds an SAT Math tutor certification through Schoolhouse. Alicia is a Flint Metro League All-Academic, earned the WNEM Best and Brightest Award in 2026, and was a state finalist in Michigan DECA’s economics event. Throughout Alicia’s academic career, she has also worked as a private math tutor, an SAT tutor, and a volunteer public tutor.
During her Senior Year, Alicia served as president of the Fenton Youth Initiative, co-president and co-founder of the Fenton DECA branch, Secretary of the Fenton National Honor Society, and steering committee member of the Genesee County Youth Initiative, among numerous other service-based activities. In her free time, she enjoys studying etymology, the study of words, watercolor painting, and alpine skiing. This balance of extracurriculars and a high academic performance reflects her ability to tackle any challenge, build student self-esteem, and bring passion to the classroom. She is excited to help Mathnasium students excitedly grow their mathematical abilities, because she knows lessons stick best when they’re fun.
Anderson
Instructor
Hi, I’m Anderson! I’m currently completing Introduction to Calculus and have successfully completed Algebra 1, Honors Geometry, Algebra 2, and Trigonometry. I’m looking forward to continuing my math journey next year in AP Calculus AB and AP Statistics.
Outside of academics, I’m involved in competitive dance and participate in healthcare-related extracurriculars, which have helped me develop discipline, communication skills, and a passion for working with others. I hope to pursue a degree in Human Biology on the pre-med track at either Boston University or Brown University.
I enjoy helping students build confidence in math by breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps. My goal is to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, strengthening their understanding, and even finding enjoyment in math along the way.
