  • What year groups does Mathnasium of Blackheath work with?

We work with children from Reception through to GCSE, children aged 4 to 16, covering all Key Stages from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to KS4.

Whether your child is just starting out in primary school or preparing for their GCSE exams, our caring, specially trained instructors can help.

  • What maths topics and subjects can your tutors in Blackheath help with?

Our specially trained instructors can help with any maths topic across the primary and secondary curriculum, including number and arithmetic, fractions, decimals and percentages, algebra, geometry, ratio and proportion, statistics and trigonometry. We cover all Key Stage levels from KS1 through to KS4, as well as GCSE maths preparation.

Instructors follow personalised learning plans built around each child’s specific knowledge gaps and goals, so sessions are always focused on what that child actually needs, not a fixed syllabus.

  • How is Mathnasium different from a private tutor?

Mathnasium of Blackheath offers something structurally different from private one-to-one tutoring.

Every child starts with a full diagnostic assessment, with tutoring tailored to a personalised learning plan built around their individual knowledge gaps. Sessions take place in a supportive small-group setting, where children receive personalised one-to-one instruction while building confidence alongside their peers.

Our specially trained tutors follow the Mathnasium Method™, a proven teaching approach used across 1,200+ centres worldwide, so the support your child receives is structured, consistent and designed for long-term progress rather than reactive homework help.

  • How do you teach maths? Which curriculum do you use?

We do not follow a fixed curriculum. Instead, we use the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach that combines personalised, assessment-based learning plans with proven teaching techniques, including mental, verbal, visual, tactile and written methods.

Our instructors align sessions with the National Curriculum to ensure children are making progress in the areas that matter most at school, but the Mathnasium Method™ goes deeper, building the foundational understanding that helps children truly grasp maths.

  • Do you work with advanced children or only the ones struggling with maths?

We empower students of all skill levels to excel in maths, whether they are looking to catch up, keep up, or get ahead on their maths journey.

We work with advanced students to expand their maths skills and help them achieve their greatest potential. At Mathnasium, advanced students can explore the subjects beyond their school’s maths curriculum and receive personalised support to achieve their unique academic goals.

If a student is struggling or simply looking to keep up in their maths class, Mathnasium will build upon what they already know, addressing their learning gaps and tutoring maths in a way that makes sense to them.

  • Do you prepare children for the 11+?

Yes! Mathnasium of Blackheath supports children preparing for the 11+ entrance exam, including the numerical reasoning and problem-solving elements tested by GL Assessment papers.

We typically recommend starting preparation in Year 4 or early Year 5 to allow time to close any knowledge gaps and build confidence across all relevant topics.

We also help children preparing for 7+ and 10+ entrance exams for independent and grammar schools in the area.

  • Do you offer GCSE maths tutoring?

Yes. Our instructors work with children in Years 10 and 11 to help them build the skills and confidence needed for their GCSE maths exams. Sessions follow personalised learning plans tailored to each child’s current grade, knowledge gaps and target. We cover all aspects of the GCSE maths curriculum, including algebra, geometry, statistics and number.

  • Do you prepare children for SATs®?

Yes. We help children in Year 6 prepare for their KS2 SATs® maths papers, covering both the Arithmetic paper and the Reasoning papers.

Preparation follows a personalised learning plan that targets the specific areas where each child needs the most support, building speed and accuracy in the lead-up to exam season.

We can also support Year 2 children with their KS1 teacher assessments.

  • Do you prepare children for the Kent Test?

Yes. The Kent Test is used for selective grammar school entry in Kent and is sat by children in Year 6. Mathnasium of Blackheath can support children with the maths and numerical reasoning elements of the test.

As with all our exam preparation, support is built around a personalised learning plan based on your child's diagnostic assessment.

  • How much does maths tutoring cost at Mathnasium of Blackheath?

Mathnasium of Blackheath operates on a flat monthly membership fee. Most children attend two to three sessions per week and following the diagnostic assessment, we will recommend a session schedule tailored to your child's learning plan and goals.
